Sylwia Pecio is a Polish artist and filmmaker. She studied art in Krakow and film in London. She spent ten years in East Africa working for the UN and a global advertising agency. Since 2000, she has worked in visual communication\n across two continents. She wrote and directed several short films before turning to her latest project.<\/p>\n

Her debut film, Wof Zerash Coffee, is a complex issue told in a simple story born from a love for the planet and the human spirit. It is a result of curiosity for human untold stories, family ties, the environment, and her love\n for Ethiopia. It blends art and storytelling with a deep empathy for social justice.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Wof Zerash Coffee got together a group of people from all over the world to make a story that everyone can relate to. This included Ethiopian and Kenyan crews, a Jamaican-British narrator, American composers, a British executive director\n and British editor, a Welsh copywriter, a Polish animator, and a German font designer and Polish\/British director. We also ensured the film was accessible to neurodiverse viewers, reflecting Ethiopia\u2019s rich societal diversity.<\/p>\n

The executive producer proposed the film’s basic concept\u2014coffee origin\u2014and then the film director charted the full scope, including the past, present, and future of coffee in film language, and brought this diverse team together, translating\n that initial vision into a complete, compelling cinematic work.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

On camera, we meet Ethiopians who view coffee as family, a societal bond, and a crucial weapon against climate change. Their stories are interwoven with scientific research, highlighting the fundamental role of Ethiopian Arabica\u2019s polyculture\n for the future of the coffee industry globally.

The past three years have been a project of dedication, as securing funding was difficult. A ten-year friendship with our participants kept the fire burning. Commitment, shared expertise, and a strong desire to tell an untold story led to\n the creation of this movie.<\/p>\n

We were heartbroken to find that one of our primary film participants, Mr Woldegiorgis Shawo, had died as we finished the film. Our deepest condolences go to his family and the people of Kafa. Mr Wolde was a humble nature protector who dearly\n loved and served the Kafa forest. He lived and died peacefully, in harmony with nature.
